The Politics of Empires Takes Shape in the Form of Kocharyans, Tashir Samon, and Dashnaks: Hovhannisyan

Arthur Hovhannisyan, the secretary of the parliamentary faction 'Civil Contract,' wrote on his Facebook page: 'Either Russia or Turkey; a dead-end and never a choice. For centuries, this dichotomy presented to the Armenian people has actually been a means of controlling us, if not enslaving us, depriving us of independence, if not condemning us, dictating how we should live, if not annihilating us.'

'From this historical distance, we can clearly see the catastrophic consequences we have faced—choosing power poles instead of value systems or civilizational aspects, serving foreign political interests instead of leading with our own political thought. Today, this policy of empires continues, taking shape in various political forces, including the Kocharyans, Serzh Sargsyans, Arman Tatoyans, Arthur Vanetsyans, Tashir Samons, and ultimately, the Dashnaks. They are now blatantly telling the Armenian people: either you belong to a union state, or you’re a subservient dog to Turkey—without even realizing that by saying this, they inadvertently become the very subservient figures dreaming of seeing Armenia as part of a union state.'

However, Armenia has turned the wheel of history; the Armenian political thought is now independent and exclusively stems from the interests of the Armenian state.

'The question of “Either Russia or Turkey” is not about choosing one side but rather about failing to see any other side, even failing to see oneself; it’s about chaining us in our fears and dreams. And in this regard, we have absolutely no question of choice.'

The Armenian people have chosen and continue to choose democracy, education, innovation, civilization, peace; they choose the free and sovereign Republic of Armenia.'
