Netanyahu Makes Changes to Trump's Gaza Peace Plan
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made changes to US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan, which the Palestinian Hamas movement is unlikely to accept, reports the British Financial Times, citing an anonymous diplomat.
According to the newspaper, Arab nations are concerned that Netanyahu has made several modifications to the American leader's plan, particularly regarding the timelines and locations for the redeployment of Israeli forces, as well as the future role of the Palestinian national authority.
“Arab countries note that the way Netanyahu has edited the deal will never be accepted by Hamas. We have returned to discussions on the details to make it more realistic and acceptable for both sides,” the diplomat told the newspaper.
Since Monday, indirect negotiations have been taking place in Egypt between Hamas and Israeli delegations, with the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, regarding the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump aimed at ending the two-year war in the Gaza Strip.
Trump's peace proposal for a peaceful resolution in Gaza, unveiled on September 29, includes 20 points and calls for an immediate ceasefire, contingent upon the release of hostages within a 72-hour timeframe. The document also suggests that Hamas and other Palestinian groups should not directly or indirectly participate in the governance of Gaza; instead, control should be transferred to a technocratic authority under international supervision, personally led by Trump.
