Europe Disappointed by Trump's Measured Response: Tensions High in Poland
U.S. European NATO allies are concerned about President Donald Trump's measured response to a drone incident in Poland and are beginning to doubt Washington's readiness, reports Reuters, citing European diplomats.
Trump's restrained reaction in Europe is interpreted as another manifestation of his "America First" policy, which suggests that European nations should secure their own safety. According to agency sources, similar incidents in the past would have prompted an immediate response from Washington. Now, Trump's response is described in Europe as "public shrugging of shoulders."
European politicians have received the American president's statements with "disappointment," "confusion," and even "unease." However, the U.S. explains this by stating that at the time of the incident, the Netherlands was responsible for Polish airspace.
Earlier reports indicated that Poland had scrambled aircraft and that air alert status was declared in some parts of the country.
