US Citizenship Acquisition Faces Complications
The Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Joseph Edlow, stated during an event at the Migration Studies Center in Washington that matters related to citizenship should be made more complex. This was reported by Politico, citing its sources.
According to the representative, the current test is too easy, allowing those who are not entitled to citizenship under U.S. law to receive support in the immigration process. The representative argued that the exam should be difficult enough that only candidates with higher education would be able to pass it.
He also mentioned that it would be appropriate to ask candidates to write an essay summarizing what it means to be an American.
The report indicated that changes to the citizenship application process are unlikely to occur soon, and these proposals are part of the Trump administration's policy to tighten scrutiny of the immigration process.
