Due to Transport Revenue Shortfalls, There Is No Money: Kostanyan
Due to protests against transport fares, there have been significant shortfalls in revenue. This was reported by Hayk Kostanyan, the press secretary of the Mayor of Yerevan.
According to him, even people who used to pay consistently are now taking advantage of the situation and are not paying. “Non-payments have led to certain budgetary issues. The municipality does not intend to cut funds from other sectors, conditionally from general education, to invest in public transport. As a result, we are in a situation where it will be impossible to buy 30 out of the 45 planned trolleybuses due to the lack of funds from revenue shortfalls. If the collection continues at this pace, it is likely that even 15 more trolleybuses may not be purchased,” he stated.
Kostanyan added that a bill imposing administrative responsibility for non-payment of transport fares is currently in parliament, and the question of imposing fines is within their jurisdiction.
