Attempts to Seize Property Owned by the Armenian Church: Jerusalem Patriarchate Raises Alarm
The World Council of Churches has condemned the attempts by Jerusalem authorities to confiscate the property of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
"We condemn this act as a blatant assault on religious freedom and a troubling violation of the historic status quo governing the holy sites in Jerusalem," stated the council's General Secretary, the Honorable Professor Jerry Pillay.
It is important to note that the Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem has raised concerns that Israeli authorities are attempting to seize property belonging to the Armenian Church. The Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Eminence Archbishop Nourhan Manougian, has written a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding tax debts.
