Disappointing and Sad: EU Ambassador
Georgia is no longer interested in pursuing European Union integration in the next four years, a decision made by the country's authorities that is extremely disappointing. This was stated by the EU ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Gerchikhin.
Yesterday, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that the authorities had decided to remove from the agenda the opening of negotiations on the country's membership in the EU until 2028 and had opted to give up government grants.
This announcement was followed by a large-scale protest that ended with special forces clearing protesters.
“We opened our doors, the doors of the European Union to Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova. Ukraine and Moldova are making rapid progress. As we heard yesterday, Georgia is no longer interested in following the path of EU integration in the next four years. This is a sovereign decision of the Georgian authorities, but it is extremely disappointing and very sad,” the ambassador noted.
According to him, the Georgian people themselves must decide where they want to see their country.
