Scholz Contacts Putin for the First Time in Two Years: What We Know
The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time in the last two years, during which he called for an end to the armed conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by the press secretary of the German Federal Cabinet, Steffen Hebestreit.
"At noon, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a phone conversation with President Vladimir Putin," the statement said. The Chancellor demanded that Putin end the war and withdraw troops. "The Chancellor urged Russia to demonstrate its willingness to engage in negotiations with Ukraine aimed at achieving a fair and sustainable peace," the secretary reported. He noted that Scholz emphasized Germany's unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine as much as necessary.
