No Armenian is Safe: Statements from Ruben Vardanyan's Son
I am certainly worried about my father, but I am also concerned about all Armenians who are being held in Baku. This was stated by David Vardanyan, the eldest son of Ruben Vardanyan, a businessman, philanthropist, and former Prime Minister of the occupied Republic of Artsakh, who is unlawfully detained in Baku.
“I believe that the arrest of a person like my father sends a very clear message to the whole Armenian people that no Armenian is safe, and this could happen to all of you. I hope he will return to us as soon as possible. I hope that he will be free as soon as possible, as there is no basis for his detention. I also understand what is happening to him on the path he is currently going through,” David Vardanyan said.
He expressed hope that his father's imprisonment would secure more international support for Armenian and Artsakh refugees. “We need to talk more about political prisoners, and I believe the next step we should take is to exert greater pressure on Azerbaijan. It is a call to action that we need to take so that everyone knows what is happening. All of this contradicts international norms and standards. And we must show Azerbaijan that such behavior cannot be tolerated, especially if that country wishes to position itself on the international stage. This is a call to action that we need to respond to,” Vardanyan stated.
According to him, the exact number of Armenian prisoners being held in Baku is unknown, which is highly concerning.
