Azerbaijan Wishes to Join BRICS, Says Ambassador to Russia
Azerbaijan wishes to join BRICS. This was stated by the country’s ambassador in Moscow, Polad Bulbuloglu, in an interview with TASS.
"Azerbaijan has indeed expressed such a desire. We have discussed this with our Russian colleagues, but this is also a process…," the diplomat said in response to a question about whether Baku has officially applied for membership in the association.
The intention of Azerbaijan to become a member of BRICS was first publicly announced in July during the plenary session of the BRICS X parliamentary forum in St. Petersburg. Subsequently, the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Sahiba Gafarova, mentioned that the country has "expressed a desire to join" the association.
“Azerbaijan promotes dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity in its foreign policy. In particular, this refers to cooperation with BRICS,” she said.
