UK and France's Foreign Ministers Urge Iran to Refrain from Threats Against Israel
Following a joint visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories, the Foreign Ministers of the United Kingdom and France, David Lammy and Stéphane Séjourné, have issued a joint statement. According to the document released by the Foreign Office, the ministers share a vested interest in the security of the State of Israel and the stability of the region.
"The risk of an escalation of conflict in the Middle East has never been greater, and we must achieve de-escalation now. We have called on Iran and its supporters to refrain from continuing military threats against Israel," the joint statement reads.
The ministers expressed full support for the efforts of the United States, Egypt, and Qatar aimed at establishing a ceasefire in Gaza and reaching an agreement for the release of hostages. "We reiterate that only the establishment of two states within the framework of international law can bring about a just and lasting peace for both Israelis and Palestinians. We strongly condemn the violence perpetrated by settlers in the West Bank, which threatens the safety of both Israelis and Palestinians and could jeopardize current diplomatic efforts," the document states.
