Iran Hopes Response Will Be Timely
The Iranian authorities hope that the response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Palestinian Hamas movement's political bureau in Tehran, will be timely and will not affect the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza. This was stated in a message from Iran's permanent mission to the UN.
The text states: “We have the legitimate right to self-defense, a matter that is absolutely unrelated to the ceasefire in Gaza. Nevertheless, we hope that our response will be timely and carried out in a way that does not hinder a potential truce.”
The statement emphasizes that Iran's priority is the establishment of a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, and any agreement reached by Hamas will be recognized by Iran.
