EU Imposes Sanctions on 28 Belarusian Individuals
The European Union has added 28 Belarusian individuals to its sanctions list due to their involvement in the "ongoing internal repression and human rights violations" in the country. This information was reported by the press service of the EU Council.
The sanctions include asset freezes, restrictions on entry and transit through EU territory, as well as a prohibition on providing financial support from EU citizens and companies.
Human rights organizations report that tens of thousands of Belarusians have been subjected to "political repression" following President Lukashenko’s victory in the 2020 presidential elections. The West and opposition politicians have characterized those elections as fraudulent.
