We see it as a positive step: Iranian ambassador
The section of the North-South transportation corridor that passes through Armenia is a significant alternative and provides an opportunity to reach the Black Sea, which is considered a shorter route. This was stated today by the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mehdi Sobhanian, during a conversation with journalists at the Iranian Embassy.
“Construction work on the section passing through Armenia, specifically in the southern part from Agarak to Kajaran, has already begun, and this is a clear plan that must be implemented. The Armenian government has allocated a substantial budget for the construction work in this southern region. We see it as a positive step. Construction work has already started in that section; this is the first phase. Information about the second phase, which involves the construction of the Kajaran tunnel, will be announced soon, regarding the tender for that project. It is also expected that information about the road construction from Kajaran to Sisian will be announced in the near future. This will ease vehicle traffic in that area,” the ambassador stated.
He emphasized that these roads do not replace each other but complement one another. “The route through Armenia and Georgia to the Black Sea reduces travel time by two days,” Mehdi Sobhanian highlighted.
