Le Pen Responds to Mbappé's Call to Vote for Macron
Marine Le Pen, the leader of France's National Rally party, has commented on the words of Kylian Mbappé, captain of the French national football team, regarding the disastrous results of the country's parliamentary elections. She stated that the French people are tired of receiving lectures. This was reported by le Point on July 5.
"The French are tired of receiving moral lessons and being lectured. I believe that Mr. Mbappé is a very good football player. But this tendency, where actors, football players, and singers tell the French whom they should vote for, particularly those who earn €1,400 a month while being millionaires living in foreign countries, is beginning to be poorly received," the politician assessed the athlete's words.
According to Le Pen, “Mbappé is one of those individuals fortunate enough to live well, protected from poverty, unemployment, and everything that affects and harms the French.” She added, “And now elections are taking place, where the French want to change their destiny and vote in the way they deem necessary.”
On July 1, it became known that the right-wing National Rally party and its allied forces won the first round of the snap parliamentary elections held on June 30 in France. President Emmanuel Macron's coalition placed third.
Following this, Mbappé considered the events occurring during one of the first press conferences a decisive moment in French history. He called on his fellow citizens to vote for Macron’s party. “The Euro is very important in our careers, but first and foremost, we are citizens of France, and I do not believe we can be disconnected from the surrounding world. Today we all see that extremists are very close to victory, and we have the opportunity to choose the future of our country. That is why I call on all the youth to get out and vote,” he said.
After the preliminary results of the vote were announced, a massive wave of protests erupted in the country, and the police used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
