Erdogan Critiques UEFA over Eagle and Rooster Representations for France and Germany
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has spoken out regarding the UEFA's suspension of Turkish national team defender Merih Demiral. “No one mentions that there is an eagle on the Germans' jerseys. Someone says there is a rooster on the French shirts; ask why that is the case. I hope that all questions will be resolved on Saturday. If nothing extraordinary happens, we will be present at the match,” Erdogan was quoted by Sabah.
It is worth noting that the incident occurred during the Euro 2024 round of 16 match against Austria (1:2), where a Turkish player celebrated a goal using the gesture associated with Turkish nationalists, the “Grey Wolves”.
