Yulia Navalnaya Leads Human Rights Foundation

The wife of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Yulia, has taken the helm of the Human Rights Foundation (HRF), an international human rights organization. This was announced on the HRF website. As the new president of the organization, Navalnaya replaces political figure Garry Kasparov, who has led HRF since 2012.

“As a person who has witnessed firsthand the threats posed by autocracies to our loved ones and to people around the world, I am honored to take on the presidency. In these challenging times, the defense of fundamental rights and freedoms is more important than ever,” Navalnaya was quoted by HRF.

According to the opposition leader's wife, the mission of the Human Rights Foundation is close to her, and she intends to contribute to promoting the organization's ideals. In her announcement on the X social network, Navalnaya noted that HRF “unites those who fight against autocracies around the world.” She added that her collaboration with the organization will help “continue Alexei’s work.”

Time magazine has included Yulia Navalnaya in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Navalnaya’s candidacy was supported by Garry Kasparov, who has been leading the Human Rights Foundation since 2012.
