A Bipartisan Resolution Condemning Ethnic Cleansing of Artsakh's Population Introduced in the U.S. Congress
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, Anna Eshoo and Chris Smith, have introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning Azerbaijan for committing ethnic cleansing against the population of Artsakh.
“Last year’s attack by Azerbaijan on Nagorno-Karabakh led to the annihilation of the Armenian community that has considered the region its home for centuries. Azerbaijan's actions meet all definitions of ethnic cleansing and must be condemned as such. Our resolution outlines a clear list of atrocities committed against the Armenian people and indicates the critical steps that the U.S. must take to ensure justice and hold accountable those responsible for these crimes,” Eshoo stated.
Congressman Smith also remarked that the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan against the population of Nagorno-Karabakh does not negate their right to live peacefully and freely in their homeland. “Our bipartisan legislation calls on the Biden administration to resolutely support the rights of Armenians in the face of the Azerbaijani government’s ongoing crimes under its relentless dictator, Ilham Aliyev,” Smith emphasized.
