Are you doing it deliberately so that people curse you while driving, filling the pothole only for it to wash away a week later? Zarokyan to Avinyan
Last month, I spoke about the potholes on the road from Norq-Marash to Masiv, and a week later you paved it, yet the rain came and more potholes appeared. I don't know if you are doing it on purpose so that the people curse you while driving. This was stated by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan during a city council meeting by Pedro Zarokyan, a member of the "National Progress" faction.
"Is this a problem of incompetence or are you constantly laundering money? Do you have any pride or not? The same problem existed on Armenakyan Street two years ago. I brought one truckload of cement, sand, and gravel, and I hired workers from the community to solve the problem: you can solve this issue with 5-6 truckloads of cement. You have asphalted the same spot 7 times, what is the issue that you cannot resolve? It’s a shame, how do you work here?" he asked.
Avinyan responded that the patching works are done according to the logic of cutting and filling potholes in streets where medium renovations are not planned. "The issues you pointed out concern streets where our plans include medium repair work. Work has begun on many streets, and the main problem with the delays is weather-related," he said.
Zarokyan replied that Avinyan does not understand the people's concerns. "They don’t care whether it’s a minor repair, medium repair, or capital repair. Fix the road so that people can drive! What are you saying now? You said, ‘tell us, we will do it, I am a man of action,’ where is your work? A pothole has been on Davit Bek Street for a month since May 25, two lanes are closed, I thought you would fix it overnight. A month has passed and that lane is still closed. You don't spare the people's money; people go to work and every second counts. You do not appreciate people's time," Zarokyan continued.
Avinyan responded that if they did not appreciate the time people spend on roads, they would not proceed with the urgent resolution procedure for the Davit Bek issue but would follow a competitive process. "We recognize that we have an urgent solution there, and we are quickly implementing the rehabilitation of that section. I want to emphasize that this infrastructure is very worn out, and we also have issues in the front section; it may operate without major renovations for another 7-8 years, thus we are planning major renovations in the adjacent area over the next 1-2 years," Avinyan noted.
