On April 10, 2024, an incident occurred in the territory of the Nerk’in Khndzoresk section of the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border. A shepherd, a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, got lost while searching for his flock and ended up in Azerbaijani territory. Due to the situation, gunfire erupted from both sides' border guards, as reported by the National Security Service (NSS).
As a result of the incident, the Azerbaijani side reported one injury. The border troops of the NSS of Armenia are ready to conduct a joint investigation with the border troops of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Despite the joint investigation, the NSS border troops are also conducting their own inquiry, with further results to be reported later. It is also necessary to clarify the question of how and why the shepherd and the flock crossed the border.
Such incidents are undesirable for the Armenian side. It is noteworthy that the Azerbaijani side has returned the lost flock as well. The shepherd is also back in the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
