A National Center for Information Security to be Established in Armenia

A National Center for Information Security and Cryptography will be established in Armenia. The decision was made during today’s meeting of the Armenian government.

Collaborating with appropriate organizations, the center will develop security standards for state electronic databases and information exchange, along with necessary software solutions.

“The organization will be staffed with leading specialists in the field of information technologies, who have passed relevant checks and possess professional knowledge and experience. It will take responsibility for the protection of information stored, processed, and transferred within the electronic governance systems used by the state administration bodies,” reads the justification for the decision.

The center will operate under the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia.

“The center will carry out research, scientific research, and experimental design work in the field of information security aimed at obtaining relevant software and hardware solutions, managing existing systems, enhancing security, and improving the reliability of information protection and secure transfer,” the justification states.

Preliminary estimates for the organization’s maintenance costs for the first 10 months of 2024 have been calculated at 1 billion 343 million AMD, including VAT and the cost of acquired capital equipment. For 2025 and each subsequent year, the estimated cost is around 1 billion 014 million AMD.
