City Transport Prices Should Range from Zero to 100 Drams: 'Mother Armenia'
City transport prices should range from zero to 100 drams. 'Mother Armenia' has submitted a draft decision to the Yerevan City Council regarding the prices for using public and underground transport. This was announced by the 'Mother Armenia' faction.
'Dear citizens, the coalition of the ruling minority in Yerevan has initiated a process to sharply raise the prices for using public transport, taking advantage of the current situation in the council. 'Mother Armenia' is against this and has presented its own proposal regarding the fare. According to this, the current fares for buses, trolleybuses, and the metro should not increase. Pensioners and individuals with first, second, and third category disabilities should be able to use all means of transport for free. Citizens should have the option to use a card system if they wish, which could reduce the unit price of transportation.'
'Mother Armenia' proposes the introduction of 1-day, 7-day, 1-month, 6-month, and 1-year transport cards. If a citizen uses public transport four or more times in one day, the unit transportation cost could be less than 100 drams. Our proposals are as follows: 1) For a 1-day physical card or e-ticket via an online app, providing unlimited travel on all transport vehicles within 24 hours of activation: 400 drams; 2) For a 7-day physical card or e-ticket via an online app, providing unlimited travel on all transport vehicles within 30 days of activation: 2,000 drams; 3) For a 30-day physical card or e-ticket via an online app, providing unlimited travel on all transport vehicles within 90 days of activation: 5,500 drams; 4) For a 180-day physical card or e-ticket via an online app, providing unlimited travel on all transport vehicles within 1 year of activation: 20,000 drams; 5) For a 365-day physical card or e-ticket via an online app, providing unlimited travel on all transport vehicles within 365 days of activation: 35,000 drams.
We urge citizens to support our proposals. If the authorities do not accept our recommendations and proceed with price increases, we will call upon citizens to rise up against these hikes and prevent the implementation of the program aimed at excessive profits by the ruling party,' reads the statement.
