Two Officials from the Central Administrative District Arrested
The Investigation Department of the National Security Service of Armenia has established that T. M., while holding the position of head of the Department for Organizing Work with Public Utilities and Apartment Building Management in the executive body of Yerevan’s Central Administrative District, along with an employee of the same department, A. H., received approximately 1.75 million AMD in bribes from various individuals.
According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, the investigation revealed that the aforementioned officials exploited their official authority and influence to facilitate urgent construction works in favor of a company by notifying its director about procurement procedures and ensuring mandatory participation of the economic operator through the provision of necessary consultations. On July 11, 2023, they received a bribe of 1,000,000 AMD for these actions.
Additionally, T. M. and A. H., in premeditated agreement with each other, misused their official powers and influence to provide privileges and sponsorship for N. A. and A. A. By ignoring and failing to record the works for widening sidewalks at the locations of cafes owned by the latter in Yerevan, they received around 750,000 AMD in bribes during July and August 2023.
T. M. and A. H. are charged under Article 435, Part 2, Points 1, 2, and 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (for two episodes). Those who provided the bribes are charged under Article 436, Part 2, Points 1, 2, and 3. It has been reported that a measure of restraint has been applied against the two officials of the Central Administrative District—arrest. The preliminary investigation has concluded.
The indictment has been approved by the prosecutor, and the materials of the case have been sent to court for substantive examination.
