Legend of World Football Franz Beckenbauer Passes Away
Franz Beckenbauer, a legend of world football and 1974 World Cup champion, has passed away at the age of 78. According to DPA agency, citing family members, the former athlete died on Sunday, January 7.
Besides his victory in the 1974 World Cup, Beckenbauer was also the winner of Euro 1972. As a defender for Bayern Munich, he won the Bundesliga four times and triumphed in the European Cup three times (now known as the Champions League). Additionally, Beckenbauer was awarded the Ballon d'Or twice.
