US Sees Distinction Between Victims of Ukraine and Gaza Conflicts: John Kirby
US authorities see a distinction between the victims of the Ukraine and Gaza conflicts, said White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby. According to him, Israeli military forces do not have the intention of "deliberately killing civilians." During a press briefing, Kirby was asked what evidence the US would need regarding Israel's violations of international law. He was reminded that when the Ukraine conflict began, American officials were "very clear in blaming Russia for violations of international law."
"Israelis are not killing, torturing, or raping Gazan civilians as a method of war. This is not their plan. They are not trying to deliberately kill civilians," Kirby responded. The spokesperson for the US administration also characterized the comparison between Russia's actions in Ukraine and Israel's actions in Gaza as an "unfortunate comparison." He assured that the United States urges Israeli authorities to "be as careful as possible when it comes to minimizing civilian casualties."
"People are being killed, people are being injured. We acknowledge that. But that is far from saying it's part of a military objective," Kirby is confident.
