What Will Russian Peacekeepers Do in Artsakh?
Days ago, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the rotation of the Russian peacekeeping contingent stationed in Artsakh was coming to an end, and the updated contingent was returning to Nagorno-Karabakh to fulfill its assigned tasks. This was reported by the daily newspaper 'Hraparak'.
“It is unclear what the Russian peacekeepers will do in Artsakh, where there is no Armenian population to protect, as they were originally called to do. There seems to have been an agreement within the framework of Russian-Azerbaijani trade that the Russian soldiers who entered Artsakh in 2020 will continue to stay there. However, it is noteworthy that we have received information that Russian peacekeepers continue to travel to Artsakh via Armenia. We learned from one of the Russian servicemen heading to Stepanakert that they landed at 'Zhvatnoc' International Airport and then proceeded to Artsakh. We could not establish contact with the Russian peacekeeping contingent, but a source from the Armenian Ministry of Defense confirmed: ‘Russian peacekeepers are going to Artsakh from Yerevan, as always.’”
