All Universities Should Be Relocated to Academic Town, Prime Minister
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during today's cabinet meeting that the quality of higher education must be improved, and there should be at least eight state-funded universities in Armenia. He also emphasized that all private universities should be relocated to an Academic Town.
Pashinyan pointed out that currently, it is widespread for individuals with higher diplomas to struggle to find employment. “This is a problem for the individual, society, and the state. It is a state issue because the full potential for economic development is not being utilized properly. It is a problem for people because they cannot realize their objective potential,” he noted.
The Prime Minister mentioned that they have set a goal for a significant change in the quality of higher education in Armenia: “We need to have up to eight state-funded universities in Armenia, and all universities should be relocated to the Academic Town.”
It should be noted that two locations are planned for the physical site of the Academic Town: an area adjacent to the 17th district of Yerevan, the majority of which is state or community property, and the territory of the Hamov Beknazarov Film Studio named after Hayfilm.
