Man Attacks Family of Palestinian Descent in the U.S., 6-Year-Old Boy Dies
A 71-year-old man named Joseph Chub received charges of first-degree murder after he killed a 6-year-old boy and injured the boy's 32-year-old mother in Plainfield, Illinois, due to escalating conflict. This was reported by the BBC. The woman and her son are Palestinian Americans.
“This horrific act of hatred has no place in America and contradicts our core values – the freedom from fear of how we pray, what we believe, and who we are,” said U.S. President Joe Biden.
Joseph Chub is facing charges for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, hate crimes, and aggravated battery. The police stated that they received an urgent call on Saturday morning from a woman who reported being attacked by her landlord in Plainfield.
She reported that she had to “run to the bathroom and continue fighting against the attacker.” When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman and the boy with “multiple stab wounds to the chest, abdomen, and upper extremities.” The child later died in the hospital. It was revealed that the attacker had inflicted 26 stab wounds on him.
The weapon used in the attack was described as a six-inch serrated knife, according to the sheriff's statement. Joseph Chub was found “sitting on the ground near the entrance of the complex,” police reported.
“Detectives have determined that the man attacked the woman and her son because they are Muslim and because of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East,” added the sheriff's office.
