India Denies CNN Report
The Press Information Bureau of India has refuted claims made in a CNN report stating that the government of Delhi left people homeless due to demolition actions carried out days before the G20 summit.
The PIB emphasized that the eviction is not related to the G20 summit and that the location of the demolition is not near the summit meeting venue.
In a post on the social media platform X, the PIB stated, “CNN has made misleading statements ahead of the G20 summit. Demolition activities are being carried out in accordance with orders issued by the Supreme Court. The demolition of structures in Tughlakabad is not connected to the G20.”
CNN published the report by Rea Mogul, Vedika Sud, and Saniya Farooqui, which included the claim, “India, a global advocate for the poor, is clearing slum areas as G20 approaches.” The report suggests that this action in Delhi is being taken to present the capital favorably to foreign guests attending the upcoming summit.
