Asian Countries Criticize Fukushima-1 Nuclear Plant Water Release
Asian countries are criticizing the release of radioactive water from the Fukushima-1 nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean. This information comes from the Russian service of Deutsche Welle. It is noteworthy that Japanese authorities have begun this process today.
“The ocean is the common property of all humanity, and the forced release of nuclear wastewater from Fukushima is an extremely selfish and irresponsible action that disregards the interests of the international community,” stated the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Beijing, Japan has “not proven the legality of its plan” and the “long-term reliability of equipment for treating radioactive wastewater.”
In turn, South Korea has urged Tokyo to ensure transparency in the process of releasing water from the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant. According to South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Japanese authorities must responsibly disclose information on this matter and relevant plans for the next 30 years.
Protests against Japan's move have also been held in several other Asian cities, including Hong Kong and Tokyo. A demonstration took place in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul, leading to the arrest of at least 16 individuals who breached the embassy building during the rally.
