EU Spokesperson: 'It is the Responsibility of Azerbaijan’s Authorities to Ensure the Continued Operations of the ICRC'
The European Union has issued a statement supporting the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the South Caucasus. The statement emphasizes, 'The EU firmly supports the ICRC as the only major humanitarian organization operating in the South Caucasus. It provides crucial humanitarian assistance and protection to those in need, in accordance with the humanitarian principles of neutrality, independence, and impartiality.
Its work along the Lachin corridor has been exclusively focused on ensuring the necessary needs and humanitarian aid for the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. It is the responsibility of the Azerbaijani authorities to ensure that the ICRC continues its operations and prevents a potential humanitarian crisis. The EU strongly supports the critical role of the ICRC in the region and reaffirms its call to Azerbaijan to ensure the unhindered movement of people and goods through the Lachin corridor.'
