VIDEO: Saakashvili Joins Trial from Clinic and Shows His Current Condition
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili joined a Tbilisi city court session via video for the first time since February 1. Images and videos have been released by local media.
Saakashvili participated in the trial from the Vivamed clinic, demonstrating that he continues to lose weight. He blames the authorities for his condition.
His supporters speak of his extremely serious health issues, while the ruling "Georgian Dream" party accuses the former president of simulating his health crisis.
The court is reviewing the "November 7 case," concerning the 2007 events when security forces dispersed a protest in Tbilisi using water cannons and tear gas. According to various reports, between 360 and 600 people were injured that day. Saakashvili is accused of abusing his powers.
