Partial Collapse of Three-Story Tower Near Sedvu St. Nshan Monastic Complex
A three-story tower located approximately half a kilometer from the 13th-century Sedvu St. Nshan monastic complex in Lori has partially collapsed. This information was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia’s Preservation Service.
The Preservation Service is taking measures to restore the collapsed section.
Located to the south of the village of Kachachkut in the Tumanyan region, the Sedvu Monastery is situated about 3 kilometers from the village, near the Akori-Kachachkut highway in the Sedvu gorge. The monastic complex has preserved the St. Nshan Church along with an adjacent chapel, several auxiliary buildings, and remnants of walls.
About 0.5 kilometers away from the monastery lies the Sedvu Fortress, which is currently in ruins. The three-story tower structure is in relatively good condition. Remnants of shelters and economic buildings have been preserved on the southeastern side of the monastery. In the Sedvu gorge, there are ancient settlements, medieval cemeteries, and numerous khachkars (cross-stones).
