Zakharova Issues Special Calls to Yerevan and Baku
Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has commented on the summoning of Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Zakharova stated that the incident that occurred on June 15 near the Azerbaijani checkpoint in the Lachin corridor has no connection with Russian peacekeepers, who acted based on the interests of both sides.
Speaking about the closure of the Lachin corridor checkpoint and the humanitarian issues in Artsakh, she noted, "We continue our efforts through the peacekeeping contingent and other means to unblock the corridor. We hope that both the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides will fulfill all their obligations arising from the trilateral statement. We urge Yerevan not to isolate itself from the work carried out within the trilateral formats. Armenia's pauses are negatively impacting the regional situation and leading to escalations. Meanwhile, we call on Baku to fully open the Lachin corridor and not to make the population of Artsakh a hostage to its disputes with Yerevan."
