Are the US, France, Russia, and the EU Ready to Guarantee the Implementation of the Upcoming Peace Treaty?
The Special Representative of Armenia, Edmon Marukyan, has made a statement regarding the illegal checkpoint established by Azerbaijan in the Lachin corridor, as well as the upcoming peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan, in violation of the trilateral agreement signed on November 9, 2020, has set up a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor. The co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, the US, France, Russia, and EU’s Josep Borrell (the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy) have expressed their concerns regarding this matter. Interestingly, all three of these countries and the EU are urging the parties to reach an agreement and sign a peace treaty.
Here, an important question arises: If Azerbaijan continues to violate the statement signed on November 9, 2020, what are Armenia's guarantees that Azerbaijan will not violate the signed peace treaty as well? Are the same members of the international community - the US, France, Russia, and the EU - ready to guarantee the implementation of the peace treaty to be signed with Azerbaijan?” Marukyan wrote.
