Loss of homeland due to defeat is one thing, willingly giving up one's homeland is another - Babayan
The advisor to the President of the Artsakh Republic and representative for special assignments, Davit Babayan, writes on Facebook:
“One of the most terrifying trials for a people is the loss of their historical homeland. This is a disaster from which no nation can survive. However, losing a homeland as a result of defeat in war is one thing, while voluntarily and consciously giving up one’s homeland, surrendering it is entirely different. The Jews lost their homeland after fighting but never gave it up, they never compromised with their conscience, even when spread across the world and having no real opportunity to reclaim it. And they received that opportunity. We too have lost parts of our homeland multiple times, but we have returned and liberated it more than once. But a people who consciously and willingly give up their homeland will never regain it, never. We have the opportunity to save Artsakh, and we should not fear the strength of the enemy, its material and numerical might. The most dangerous thing is not this, but the self-destructive nature of patriotism, especially when it’s conscious.”
