Aliyev Speaks About the Burning of Their Flag in Armenia
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, claims that the burning of his country's flag at the opening of the European Weightlifting Championship in Yerevan is backed by the authorities of Armenia.
“I think that the burning of the Azerbaijani flag during the ongoing European Weightlifting Championship in Yerevan is yet another dirty act by the Armenian authorities. I accept this as such. This is not a coincidence and not the act of an individual. This is yet another dirty action of the Armenian authority. There are many reasons to say this,” Aliyev stated in an interview with the state AzTV television channel yesterday.
According to him, if such an event occurs before the eyes of the political leadership of Armenia, and there is no reaction from them, then “the author of the act is the authority and the state itself.”
On April 14, during the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championship in Yerevan, famous designer Aram Nikoghosyan burned the Azerbaijani flag, resulting in that country's team withdrawing from the championship.
It is noteworthy that the incident was preceded by a despicable provocation by Azerbaijanis in the Tegh community, which resulted in the death of four Armenian servicemen. Additionally, an infiltrated Azerbaijani killed a security guard at the ZPMK in Kapan.
