VIDEO: There Might Be an Impression that the Opposition Suggested Amal Clooney for Ombudsman - Aleksanyan

“An impartial observer might get the impression that the opposition proposed not Edgar Ghazaryan for the Ombudsman position, but, for example, Amal Clooney,” stated Vahagn Aleksanyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract faction during a parliament session. He added that the standards presented by the opposition for the Ombudsman – impartiality, exclusion of dependency, and so on – could be attributed to anyone, but presumably not to the opposition’s candidate.

According to the deputy, the opposition’s candidate for Ombudsman was proposed on the dictation of an NGO that called for supporters of the Prime Minister to be hanged upside down from the trees on the day of discussions in the parliament committee regarding the Ombudsman election.

Regarding the opposition's criticism that the ruling party's candidate Anahit Manasyan did not respond to what happened during the parliament committee session, Vahagn Aleksanyan mentioned: “Firstly, Ms. Manasyan was not in that room. But let me say something much more interesting – you were also not in that room, so why weren’t you there to respond? You didn’t come because you were ashamed that Edgar Ghazaryan is considered your best cream, whether your president’s best candidate, your prime minister's best candidate, or the Ombudsman candidate. Edgar Ghazaryan is your ceiling; his intellect is your collective intellect.”

It is reminded that today, on April 11, the issue of electing the Ombudsman of Armenia is being discussed in the National Assembly. The Civil Contract faction has proposed the candidacy of Anahit Manasyan for this position.
