Caucasian Region is Experiencing a 'Sensitive Phase', Says Senior Iranian Official
The tensions and conflicts in the Caucasian region are not beneficial for any country, and Iran is opposed to any geographical changes in this area. This was stated by Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, during a meeting with Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of the Armenian Security Council, in Tehran on Sunday, according to Iranian PressTV.
“Any geographical change in the South Caucasus might serve as a means of escalating tensions, which would play into the hands of the enemies of regional security and stability,” Shamkhani remarked.
The senior Iranian security official further added that continuous dialogue and cooperation should replace any 'hard approach' aimed at addressing regional challenges.
Shamkhani declared that the Caucasian region is currently undergoing a “sensitive phase,” expressing hope that Azerbaijan and Armenia “will be able to overcome the existing tensions through restraint and prudence.”
Earlier, the press service of the Armenian Security Council reported that Grigoryan and Shamkhani discussed the security situation in the region, as well as the prospects for developing Armenian-Iranian bilateral relations.
