Lukashenko and Putin Meet
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has arrived in the Kremlin for a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. They have begun discussions in the representative office of the first building of the Kremlin.
The negotiations will take place on the eve of the Supreme State Council meeting of the Union State, which will be held on April 6. The Kremlin has not ruled out that the Minsk peace initiatives for resolving the situation in Ukraine may be discussed during these talks.
“If he, Alexander Grigoryevich, considers it necessary to provide clarifications on this matter, then, of course, they will exchange opinions,” said Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov in a briefing.
He specified that the conversation with the president will begin on Wednesday evening and will continue during an unofficial dinner. The parties will discuss the upcoming meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
“In addition, of course, this is a general security concern related to a very, very hostile environment for us. All of this will be on the agenda,” Peskov added.
Additionally, Putin and Lukashenko may also touch upon the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus, including the construction of an object for storing tactical nuclear weapons in the country.
It is expected that the leaders will also discuss import substitution, deepening cooperation, and the development of high-tech industries.
