Kremlin Calls WSJ's Call to Expel All Russian Journalists from the US Absurd

The official representative of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, has labeled the proposal to expel Russian journalists from the US as absurd. This statement comes in response to the recent detention of Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich in Yekaterinburg, reported Gazeta.

Peskov emphasized that all foreign journalists with active credentials in Russia can and continue to carry out their work in the country. According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, these journalists face no restrictions and are free to perform their duties.

“But in this case (Gershkovich’s), it is essentially about the activities of a spy under the guise of a journalist. Since the journalist (Gershkovich) was caught 'in the act', the situation is clear here,” said the Kremlin representative.

He added that there is no reason to expel all Russian journalists from the United States.

“If there are some violations, if there are cases of stepping outside the legal framework, then yes, but in this case, limiting the rights of diligent journalists would be absurd and wrong,” Peskov remarked.
