After WSJ Journalist's Arrest, Anthony Blinken Urges All U.S. Citizens to Leave Russia
The U.S. administration is deeply concerned about the arrest of Evan Gershkovich, a U.S. citizen and reporter for The Wall Street Journal, on charges of espionage in Russia. This was stated in a written statement issued by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday.
“We are deeply troubled by the arrest of a U.S. citizen journalist by Russia, which has been widely reported. We are in contact with The Wall Street Journal regarding this situation,” the document notes.
Blinken emphasized that U.S. citizens living in or visiting Russia should leave the country immediately. The U.S. has sought consular access to Gershkovich.
