The US Wants to Negotiate with North Korea, Kirby Says
John Kirby, the coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council, stated in a press briefing that the US continues to strive for a diplomatic resolution to the situation on the Korean Peninsula, according to Yonhap.
Kirby emphasized that the US's willingness to negotiate denuclearization with the leadership of North Korea has not diminished, but Pyongyang is not ready to accept the American offer to discuss its nuclear program. At the same time, the official noted that the US proposal remains on the table.
“So far, they have shown no willingness,” Kirby said. Earlier, it was reported that the head of the International Organizations Division of the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Choe Chol Sun, equated pressure for denuclearization to a declaration of war against North Korea.
