UN Security Council Rejects Russian-Chinese Draft on Nord Stream, Says Nebenzya
The United Nations Security Council has not accepted the Russian-Chinese draft regarding the Nord Stream. Russia no longer intends to raise this issue in the UN Security Council, according to Readovka.
The UN Security Council did not support the Russian-Chinese proposal for an international and independent investigation into the diversions at Nord Stream. Three countries (Russia, China, Brazil) voted in favor, while 12 countries abstained. However, the Russian Federation no longer intends to put this issue to a vote in the Security Council, stated Vasily Nebenzya, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN.
“We know the results. But a negative result is also a result. We were expecting this, as it revealed a few things. You saw our dialogue with the United States representative today; he simply could not answer straightforward questions, he accused us of propaganda, and they (the US) tried to divert attention to Ukraine,” emphasized Nebenzya.
Dmitry Polyansky, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, stated that Denmark, Germany, and Sweden must report to the Security Council about their procedures regarding the diversion. According to him, the US and the countries supporting them are afraid of a fair international investigation into the Nord Stream diversions. The states are trying to give countries time to complete their investigations, but, as Nebenzya pointed out, this is merely an opportunity to hide evidence and clean up the crime scene.
