Casualties Among Civilians During the Ukraine War Revealed

From February 24 to December 26, 2022, a total of 6,884 civilians lost their lives in Ukraine, while 10,947 were injured. This information is mentioned in a report from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Out of the 6,884 casualties, 429 were children, and 4,052 individuals died in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions alone. The report also notes that 483 people were killed in areas under the control of the Russian armed forces.

The main causes of civilian casualties and injuries have been heavy artillery shelling, strikes from multiple rocket launchers, missile attacks, and airstrikes. Moreover, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights emphasizes that the real number of casualties and injuries is significantly higher, as gathering information from several locations is hampered due to intense fighting. This particularly pertains to Mariupol, Izium, Lysychansk, Popasna, and Severodonetsk, where the number of civilian casualties is believed to be considerably high.
