Azerbaijan's Asadov Explains Why the Country Desires the Opening of the 'Zangezur Corridor'
Azerbaijan's Prime Minister has stated that the opening of the 'Zangezur Corridor' would serve as a significant boost for Azerbaijan's development. According to Azerbaijani media, Ali Asadov made these remarks during a session of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan.
“In the period following the Patriotic War, significant work has been done to restore the liberated territories. The opening of the 'Zangezur Corridor' will serve as a significant stimulus for Azerbaijan's development,” said the head of the Azerbaijani government.
Baku consistently claims that Yerevan is obligated to provide Azerbaijan with a 'Zangezur Corridor' similar to the Lachin Corridor, which would allow for a direct connection between Azerbaijan's western regions and Nakhchivan without the installation of customs checkpoints.
Yerevan denies having taken on such an obligation, emphasizing that it is prepared to unblock communications while respecting the sovereignty of both countries.
