Russia Vetoes US Resolution on Referendums at UN Security Council
Russia has vetoed a resolution at the United Nations Security Council proposed by the United States and Albania, which does not recognize the results of the referendums held in four regions joined by Russia, as reported by RIA Novosti.
The text of the US and Albania's resolution condemns Russia's organization of referendums in Ukrainian territories within internationally recognized borders, labeling these actions as "illegal." It notes that they cannot serve as a basis for changes to the status of the four regions.
The authors of the resolution have urged all countries, international organizations, and specialized agencies not to recognize changes in the status of "Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine." Additionally, Moscow has been demanded to withdraw its forces from Ukraine immediately.
