Finland and Sweden Will Soon Join NATO, Stoltenberg Says

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed confidence in an interview with Bloomberg that Finland and Sweden will soon join the alliance.

He explained that the two countries have reached an agreement with Turkey, despite previous concerns raised by Ankara on various issues. “I am confident that Finland and Sweden will become full members of NATO in the near future,” Stoltenberg stated.

Currently, 27 countries support the accession of Sweden and Finland to the alliance. Hungary, Slovakia, and Turkey have not yet voted in favor.

Earlier, German journalist Carolina Druten wrote in Die Welt that a real conflict is brewing within NATO between Turkey and Greece. She noted that while Turkey and Greece are officially allies as members of the North Atlantic Alliance, there have been instances where the two nations stood on the brink of war. Specifically, confrontations in the 1980s and 1990s nearly escalated into armed conflicts.
