Aliyev: We Expect Armenia to Take the Same Step

Azerbaijan has formed the composition of its commission to work on the peace treaty and expects Armenia to take the same step. This statement was made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as reported by local media.

Aliyev referred to the recent meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Tbilisi as the first step towards starting negotiations on a peace treaty between the two countries. Blinken, for his part, emphasized that the U.S. supports the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He also positively assessed the meeting of the two foreign ministers and their direct dialogue in Tbilisi.

It is noteworthy that earlier, Blinken had also had a phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
