Judge Who Decided to Imprison Armen Grigoryan Submits Resignation from Judges' Union
Armenia's first instance court judge Arusyak Aleksanyan submitted a request to leave the Judges’ Union today. The probable reason for this decision is the silence of the Judges’ Union during recent events and their failure to support Judge Aleksanyan.
This was reported by Tert.am.
It should be noted that Judge Aleksanyan made the decision to imprison producer Armen Grigoryan, who passed away during a court session. The death was registered during the first court session of Grigoryan's case, presided over by Mnatsakan Martirosyan.
Following the tragic incident, various platforms began to criticize the judge, but the Judges’ Union has not issued any response, and their position remains unknown. This is significant because previously, in the case of certain judges, the organization has regularly issued supportive statements.
Interestingly, this is also the first instance where a judge has submitted a request to leave the Judges’ Union.
The media attempted to reach Aleksanyan for comment regarding the situation but received no response to their calls.
It should be recalled that Grigoryan was accused under the second part of Article 226 of the Criminal Code, specifically for inciting national, racial, or religious enmity. The basis for this criminal case was a statement Grigoryan made during one of his press conferences regarding residents of Shirak and Ararat regions.
